Wapreg's First Blog Post!!

Hello Readers!  Or should I say followers?  Take that which you prefer...or another.  So I guess as an introductory post, I'll start with the story of how we got started.  I personally have always cared about the environment and when I came to Ghana for the first time, my heart went straight to the waste problem here.  When I came back to Ghana, I met Alfred, a pastor/free-lance journalist, who felt the same as I do about the waste issue.

Sadly, we were unable to start anything right away.  Because of this, while in Canada, I researched the possibility of making our ideas a reality.  When I returned for the third time (that is now), we discussed my research and are now working at making our dream come true!

It is a slow process, but we have faith we will be successful in our plans.  We are in the beginning/planning stages, but want a public record of our progress from the beginning, hence the blog.  If you check our "about me", you'll see that our vision is to help reduce waste in Ghana through prevention.  Prevention is to be achieved through religious bodies, schools and general public. We want to concentrate on: a) Why to reduce and b) How to reduce.  This will not be easy, but if we start small, it will work.  We already have a few churches and schools (and even a hospital) willing to partner with us.  When we finally start working with them, we will be sure to list them.  We will give the information of each, so you can even contact them yourselves to check up on us.  Why?  Because our statements are not enough!

As for our name, we chose what we felt was the most obvious choice.  There is no point having a catchy name if it has nothing to do with our work!  Though feel free to call us Wapreg for short.

Well that's it for today.  I should leave something for next week!  Before I go, though, a quote by Demetri Martin:
A lot of people like lollipops. I don't like lollipops. To me, a lollipop is hard candy plus garbage. I don't need a handle. Just give me the candy.
